چکیده

Methods In total, 259 patients were enrolled, after the exclusion of patients with severe pre-existing renal insufficiency (defined as a eGFR< 15 ml/min). As part of a broader study, urine and blood samples were obtained immediately before initiation of cardio-pulmonary bypass. Patients were subsequently retrospectively divided into 2 groups, AKI (n=84) and non-AKI (n=175). This subdivision was based on based on the AKIN criteria i.e. increase in s-Creat ≥ 0.3 mg/dl or ≥ 50% compared to baseline within 48 h or reduction in urine output < 0.5 ml/kg/h for more than 6 h. Statistical analysis of all characteristics before arrival on the ICU was performed.

Correlation of intraoperative renal near infrared spectroscopy with the development of acute kidney injury in adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass

Introduction: The present study aimed to correlate renal oximetry near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) values with conventional non-invasive biomarkers for the early detection of acute kidney injury (AKI) in adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Accordingly, renal NIRS can be employed as a trending device for the prevention of AKI developmen...

Frequency of Acute Kidney Injury in Patients Treated With Normal Saline after Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting

Introduction: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common postoperative complication of cardiac surgery, which is associated with an increased risk of morbidity and mortality. This study investigated the frequency of postoperative AKI in low risk adult patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).Materials & Methods: All consecutive adult patients of American Society of Anesthe...

Increased risk of acute kidney injury in patients undergoing tricuspid valve surgery.

OBJECTIVES We aimed to determine which patients undergoing tricuspid valve (TV) surgery are at increased risk for acute kidney injury (AKI). METHODS We reviewed 951 patients [mean age 67 ± 13 years, 573 (60%) female] having TV surgery between 2000 and 2007. Analysis focused on clinical outcome; AKI was defined by the consensus RIFLE criteria (risk, injury, failure). RESULTS Surgical procedu...

Hypoalbuminemia as a Predictor for Complications Following Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting

Background and purpose: There is little information about the prognostic role of preoperative serum albumin levels in postoperative outcomes following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The aim of this study was to evaluate preoperative hypoalbuminemia as a predictor for complications after CABG. Materials and methods: This prospective observational study was conducted in 200 patients und...

Incidence, risk factors and prediction of post-operative acute kidney injury following cardiac surgery for active infective endocarditis: an observational study

INTRODUCTION Cardiac surgery is frequently needed in patients with infective endocarditis (IE). Acute kidney injury (AKI) often complicates IE and is associated with poor outcomes. The purpose of the study was to determine the risk factors for post-operative AKI in patients operated on for IE. METHODS A retrospective, non-interventional study of prospectively collected data (2000-2010) includ...
